Are We Humans or Animals?

Let's all take a moment and reflect on our humanity.
An 8 year-old child was arrested at a public market in Iran for stealing a loaf of bread. He was punished right on the spot in the name of Islam. His hand will be crushed by a car. He will lose his hand for ever! What is wrong with us, Humans?

  1. This appears to be very cruel punishment for such a petty crime. It is difficult to fathom the justification given by a law or custom that would sanction an 8-year old to such an atrocity. However, I'm looking at the situation from the standpoint of the laws governing the society in which I live, not where the crime occurred. No person, living in one country, should dictate or reprimand the leaders or law enforcement in another country in how they should carry out their punishments for crimes. The irony in the photo is that there is a blanket beneath the boy’s arm. I imagine this is there to protect his arm from the rough sandy road. How can the punisher care about the boy’s arm not being bruised by the sandy road, yet allow it to be crushed by a vehicle? Or perhaps there’s no compassion at all for the boy. It could be that the punisher doesn’t want blood spilled on the street.

  2. That's unbelievably sick! There is something wrong with a society that stands and watches other adults punish a child for simply trying to feed itself. And we wonder why the world is effed up???!!
